Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a primary therapeutic approach in my counselling practice. EFT is an evidence-based therapy used with couples, families, and individuals.
Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) is an attachment-based, experiential therapy that focuses on supporting parents and children in restructuring negative cycles of interaction for the purpose of helping loved ones restore a strong relational connection that fosters the child's emotion regulation, resilience, and growth.
The overall process of change in EFFT unfolds in three stages:
The average length of EFFT is 8-16 sessions. EFFT begins with an assessment phase that includes 1-2 family sessions followed by a parent session and a child session. EFFT is suitable for families with teenage or adult children, although it can also be effective with pre-adolescent children who are comfortable talking about their emotions.
